We appreciate your interest in the Texas City Independent School District. Our students, parents, staff, community, Superintendent and Board of Trustees have worked diligently to make our school district one of the highest achieving in the Greater Houston area. We are able to enjoy this distinction through the contributions of dedicated professional and support staff.
Texas City, with a population of 44,274, offers the benefits of bay area living including the “world’s longest man-made fishing pier,” stretching five miles into Galveston Bay. We are located 35 minutes from Houston and 15 minutes from the beaches of Galveston. With the support of local industries and businesses we have created incentive programs for employee wellness, academic achievement, drug and alcohol prevention programs, scholarships, and a wide range of opportunities for student success.
The district is served by one high school (grades 10–12), one ninth grade center (grade 9), one middle school (grades 7–8), one intermediate school (grades 5-6), and four elementary schools (grades Early Childhood–4) and a DAEP Center.
Our compensation plan is among the best in the area. The 2009-2010 beginning salary for a teacher with a Bachelor’s degree is $45,000. The Master’s degree teacher begins with a salary of $46,100. Bilingual certified teachers earn an additional annual supplement of $3,000. We also offer all employees a wellness, retention, and attendance incentive benefit where employees can earn up to an additional $2,000 per year.
Texas City Independent School District also provides health insurance for the employees as well as dental insurance and a $10,000 life insurance policy. Currently, the employee contribution is $24.96 for TRS Active Care 1 and $112.96 per month for TRS Active Care 2. Other employee benefit options include supplemental life insurance, disability insurance, cancer insurance, 403(b), 457(a), worker’s compensation insurance, and unemployment compensation insurance.
I encourage you to complete a
professional application online. I look forward to meeting you personally to discuss your interest in joining our district going from "good to great'.
Sincerely,
Marcus Higgs
